Design Concept:

The feathers of the kingfisher have layering patterns and a symphony of lights; the royal blue patterns on its back are very eye catching hence its nickname “Flying jewel”. While the colors of the kingfisher are beautiful, they also pose a great difficulty to its making.

It took three sculptural versions, almost thirty kiln test-firings and an arduous color experimentation process before the LIULIGONGFANG artisans were satisfied with their colorfully layered bird.

The body of the kingfisher uses the color placement technique, putting an emphasis on the accuracy and the vibrancy of the colors.
The marks on the tree trunks are realistically defined and the background is a clear hemisphere that symbolizes the ripples on the surface of water.

To See, Is To Believe – Kingfisher is handcrafted using LIULI’s pâte de verre technique, with precise sculpting, detailed mold work, powder-firing coloration, and extensive hand finishing. The sculpture required multiple prototypes and more than twenty trial firings to refine the color balance and detail. From the bird’s sharp beak and delicate feathers to its poised stance and ripple-inspired base, every element reflects LIULI’s craftsmanship, patience, and mastery of light, color, and form.
