Design Concept: This is the exclusive design for Harry Winston in the Year of the Horse. I Ching: qian is Heaven, a virtuous horse. The horse represents masculinity and strength, vigor, noble character and prosperity. This design showcases six noble steeds in different poses, all surging upward with heads raised. The sculpture captures the horses’ proud and energetic spirit, their courageous and powerful movements. Surging alongside the horses are rolling currents of water. Waves cluster together like flower blossoms. These horses are magnanimous and in ascent, positive and bold, a display of charismatic leadership. In Chinese culture, waves symbolize fortune. These six mighty steeds symbolize success and auspiciousness. The understated form of the vase accentuates the intricate sculpted horses. The vase as a whole is presented as a splash with horses emerging through the waves, magnificent and bold. The opening of the vase is comprised of six mighty steeds in vivid and realistic detail. The body of the vase utilizes low and high relief sculpting to express the details in the waves. The lower half of the vase is polished to reveal Liuli streams created by liquefied color during the high-temperature firing process; air bubbles are also present. The thick base reflects a sturdy center of gravity congruent with the spirit of the design. |
